Dear August

Wow. Time flies when you don't know what you're doing.

These weeks have  flown by faster than I can count.  If you've been following me, you see that The Brittany B has officially been live for a little over two months. What you may not know is that it was two years of going back and forth about  creating a site and trying to figure it all out. I finally took the plunge into deep waters that quite frankly I don’t think anything or anyone could have prepared me to swim in. For me,  August was a learning point that I hope will reflect in what I continue to do with my website, my business, and even more so with myself.

If you're like me when taking on a new task or trying something completely new, it can be terrifying.  I can be completely veracious with you in saying that I have doubted myself more times than I can count. At some points, it is a daily battle. I ask myself is it going at the right speed, is appealing to the right type of audience,  or is it even the right type of thing to do?   If no one would ever visit my website, would I still be happy to put it out? The answer to that question is yes. I  always want to produce content that yields me to say yes when I ask myself that.

Since we are friends here, I can tell you that I share things that I do because to be quite frank I struggle with being transparent all the time when tasked with talking about myself as a person.  I walk a fine line of being guarded and cautious.  Quite often people laugh at me when I say I am naturally shy. I will cross my heart and pinky promise that I really I am an introvert and an extrovert at the same damn time.    No joke, this really is a thing, guys!

Courtney Brand, of  lifestyle and branding blog, The B Werd

With each day that passes my comfort zone is being tested by more expectations and opportunities.  Although being an introverted extrovert can be draining at times I try to use it to my advantage for not just myself, but hopefully to impact at least one person that will read my writings on here or from another source.  Posting about gems from events or places I travel to is in hopes that one person reading it learns something or is inspired to go or see something that they haven’t.  I feel as though that is my purpose here, with you.

The day before I launched my blog, I attended a panel organized by Dallas based publication Cosign Magazine.   The idea of finding passion and purpose kept coming up and I believe there was no better time for me hear these gems:

You have to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Passion comes from experience. They are the things you would do if you are making $1 million or nothing
Courtney, The B Werd
“Just because you have a passion for something doesn’t mean it is purposeful. When you find what it is that you are meant to do, it will push back on your comfort zone,”
Channing, CNK Daily

I made the conscious decision at that moment that what I was getting ready to do the next day  was the intersection of both my passion and my purpose. It is my hope that it will always be that for me and for anyone that has read or will read my blog that it shows through.

I've had a few people ask me about starting a blog and how they should go about it. I am nowhere near an expert and I just play guess with what I do throwing things out there to see what sticks. I'm a wreck 8 out of 7 days of the week lol! But, I can say with confidence that is scary but you will be ok. I urge you to take that jump. That blog. That business. That job. Whatever it is if you feel right and that it is your divine manifestation to fulfill your life go for it.  Literally YOLO. In between those doubts you will look up and say, "Oh shit. I'm actually doing it and I just might be lit." (those were bars by the way. awful but still, bars)

I’ve appreciate every ounce of love that has been shown to me in the past month from friends and even strangers. I know I have a long way to go, to continually improve, and do more. If you are reading this, thank you. I sincerely hope that you stay along for the ride.

Dear August, this was just the beginning. September, be ready for me.

Until Next Time,

Brittany B
